The Woodmans Hut
During University I began volunteering at a woodland management project, The Heartwood Project was a satellite of The Cherrywood Project and each one championed a holistic and traditional method of managing woodlands in a way that is both productive and ecologically sympathetic. I learned how to read the land and the health of a forest, what life as a woodsman was like and how life in a remote area involves much more work and thought than the conveniences of urban life. After assisting the project managers to build their own cabins and outdoor kitchen they invited me to build another cabin and then to live in it for a year as a woodmans assistant, more images were documented on my facebook page but below are a few key milestones in the cabins development, including the installation of 12Volt solar p.v. light system, the installation of a wood burner made from an old gas cylinder and the construction of a substantial mezzanine bed space.
